Community Commitment
Over the course of four decades, I have volunteered for countless nonprofits, serving on the boards of several and staff of a few.
I caught the community bug when I was 20 years old as an intern at the Austin Chamber of Commerce -- in the Austin Aqua Festival organization.
I was a member of the 10th Class of Leadership Austin ('88-'89) when I was 25 years old - the youngest member ever at that time - and later served on that board of directors.
In addition to Leadership Austin, I've served on boards for Center for Child Protection, Operation Blue Santa, Austin Aqua Festival, and Entrepreneurs Foundation of Central Texas, among others.
I've served on countless committees and raised funds for more nonprofits than I can remember. My commitment is real.
1 / Operation Blue Santa - Austin Police Department
As an early civilian board member (later Board Chair) with this Austin Police Department program, my work sparked a public movement to begin supporting officers in their holiday effort. Engaging media, retail owners, community partners and corporate sponsors, we grew our capacity to bring Christmas food and gifts to hundreds of families in Austin. This past year they served 5,000 families and 13,000 children.
The board recruited me to serve as a contractor to lead Marketing and Development efforts of the historic Paramount Theatre and State Theater (and its Company.) My first day on the job? Change the URL from austintheatrealliance.org to austintheatre.org! We also built an online season ticket sales platform - a very difficult process - and supplemented regular paid ads with more disruptive PR activities among other creative changes to increase contributions as well as seat sales.

Worked with this beautiful family foundation to help them with their transition from one to two different foundations.
4 / Texas Special Olympics
I raised funds for the Texas State Games as well as the Central Texas regional programs. These efforts included recruiting and managing hundreds of volunteers for the Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf Tournament, among fundraising programs.
5 / The Nature Conservancy of Texas
This client needed support on multiple fronts. I delivered not only an award-winning fundraising piece, but a statewide communications audit and several media relations efforts - from prescribed during to an annual bird count.
6 / Walk of the Town (Leadership Austin)
With my Leadership Austin class 'Action Team,' researched, wrote and produced a historic walking tour of downtown Austin which was rented from the State Capitol Gift Shop and the Austin Visitors Center. Beyond building descriptions it delivered old stories and myths about each. We recently repurposed the narrative to create an app for Walk of the Town.
